User Experience Designer
Location: San Francisco , California , United States

User experience isn't just the result of interaction and behavior design, flows and objectives, personas and use cases, concepts and wireframes. User experience design is how something as fragile as an idea is turned into the bones of a real product.

We believe that the way an interface looks and the way it functions are — and should be — deeply intertwined. No great product can be built without great user experience design. Which is why you should be able to use every tool at your disposal (including minimal rapid prototypes) to bring unique, groundbreaking experiences to life that will be used by millions of people.

It's not easy — but nothing worth doing is, right?

You:

  • Have an innate understanding of UX and IA; obsessed with finding the best possible solution to bring a concept to life in a way that will delight its users.
  • Can balance a data-driven design process with strong gut and experience-based decision making.
  • Can wear many hats and execute concepts through various stages.
  • Know how to edit, and have minimalist tendencies. You're totally unafraid to challenge design assumptions — especially your own.
  • Are obsessed with using products. Have an eye for what works, what doesn't, and what's overhyped.
  • Have a mastery of current interaction design best practices, principles, and patterns, as well as an acute awareness of what is possible with current technologies (from both a visual design and interaction design standpoint).
  • Will be working directly with product leaders and a crack engineering team to precisely execute your vision. Because that's how we do.
  • May have strong front-end development / rapid prototyping skills (HTML / CSS / JS / jQuery, etc.), which are a plus, but not necessarily required.

For those that want to build stuff in Flash, can't tell the difference between Helvetica and Arial, or don't understand how something like AJAX might impact your interaction design, this probably isn't the right fit.

We care deeply for design. We know just how much skill and work it takes to really nail it. Which is why we can't wait to see a link to your portfolio or other work.
